Tell me about your home office, I know you have one! Is it a corner of the dining room table? A TV tray in the living room? An actual room in your home dedicated to office-y things? Did you get a tiny house or one of those trendy sheds to convert to an office?

There is nothing like a good old fashioned home improvement project to strengthen your marriage, am I right? My husband thought it would be a great idea, since I am in the flooring business, that we embark on the mission of installing the new luxury vinyl plank flooring all by ourselves in the main living space of our home. We could stand back and admire our beautiful shiny new floors knowing it was through the work of our hands that made it happen. Our own blood, sweat, and tears…… and possibly some bickering, a shot or two of tequila, and more “oops” than I care to recall. Throughout the project, I couldn’t help but reflect on my career in flooring and try to turn it into as much of a learning experience as possible.

Focusing on sustainability is one of the most crucial aspects for taking care of the world. We live in a decade where everyone is concerned about making the world more livable. So, we think everyone should do what is required. If you live in Maryland or the Virginia/DC area, no doubt you enjoyed the majestic 8–12-inch snowstorm to kick of the 2022 New Year. Also, no doubt, if you oversee maintenance/facilities at a public building you dreaded the cleanup afterwards.

It is always a very exciting time when a company moves into a new location or renovates an old one. High morale can be created amongst employees, management, and clients or customers.

How important is “first impression” when a person enters your facility? A large percentage of commercial buildings have some type of hard surface, or tile, installed in the lobby area. The first area a person sees when they come through the front door. What do your visitors see?

Congratulations!  You’ve just completed that long overdue paint and carpet refresh in your facility.  You selected an aesthetically pleasing material (which everyone agreed on no doubt), set aside the funding to pay for it (because there is always a surplus in the budget, right?), had everyone pack up their offices and/or relocate for the day (Tom in accounting has been accumulating paper piles for his entire 20 year tenure, which ironically is the same amount of time that carpet has been down), and finally proceeded with the installation.  It really is quite a process, and too often is put off until the last minute because of the rigamarole.  I’m certain it’s not a project you want to repeat any time soon.  I would like to discuss a vital step (and one of the most ignored) that will help extend the life of your carpets.  

Reflect with me for a moment. It’s summer 2018. Business was bustling, the population was steadily working, hand sanitizer and toilet paper weren’t even a fleeting thought. We cleaned and disinfected, but not like “2019 cleaned and disinfected”. COVID-19 changed the game. It changed everything for everyone.
